Install a Theme in Google Chrome
Chrome has not yet provided a way to easily install and manage various themes.
Instead, you must replace a file called default.dll. In this tutorial, you will learn how to do just that.
Step One: Find and download a theme.
Step Two: Typically, the theme will come in a zipped folder. If this is the case, be sure to unzip it to retreive
the file called default.dll.
Step Three: To complete the theme install, you must now replace the current default.dll in the theme
folder located in your Chrome directory. It is strongly encouraged that you backup the default.dll file that is already
in the folder so you can revert back to it if you wish. The folder that the theme is in differs between Windows XP and Windows Vista.
To find yours, refer to the two file locations below.
For Windows XP:
C:\Documents and Settings\USER\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Chrome\Application.VERSION\Themes\
For Windows Vista:
C:\USER\UserName\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\Application\VERSION\Themes\
In each of the above folder locations, replace USER with the current Windows user you are using, and replace
VERSION with the version of Google Chrome that you're running.
Step Four: More than likely, you need to restart Google Chrome for the changes to take effect.
